STORIES

Supporting Local Sports and Recreation
The Riverton Sporting Hub is a great space, but it does not have enough facilities to meet the needs of our community. The good news is that they have the land, which is a solid starting point. The plan is to build an indoor stadium to cater for netball and volleyball, sports that currently have no proper facilities in the area.
Nearby, the Riverton Footy Club and Cricket Club are important hubs for local sport. These clubs provide opportunities for kids and families to get involved, but the limited infrastructure makes it challenging. For example, the current indoor facilities are basically just a big pool. The hope is to extend into the car park to build a four-court stadium for the volleyball network, which would finally give these teams a proper home.
This sporting hub is also full of history. It was named after our longest-serving mayor, who used to live in Shelley and was the local GP. It is a reminder of how community spaces are built over time with dedication and care.
Investing in local sports facilities is about more than just buildings. It is about giving children and families the spaces they need to play, connect, and thrive. Supporting community sport ensures that everyone, from juniors to seniors, has the opportunity to participate and enjoy the benefits of being active.
