Bird watering station

One of the things I care about most is protecting our native wildlife here in Canning, especially our Black Cockatoos. That’s why I’m so proud of the work we’ve done to install bird watering stations across the city. In the coming months, we’ll be adding another four Cockitrough® stations, bringing our total in Canning to 14!

These stations, designed by the Town of Victoria Park, give birds a safe, clean, and reliable source of water. They are especially important during Perth’s hot summers and help support declining populations of native birds in our local area. It’s a simple but powerful way to care for the wildlife that shares our community.

By installing these watering stations across Canning, we are creating spaces where birds can thrive while also making our parks and open spaces even more vibrant and welcoming for residents. Every local government provides dog watering bowls in parks, so why shouldn’t our birds have the same care?

I’m grateful to our Parks Operations team and everyone involved in making this happen. For me, this is about more than infrastructure—it’s about showing our community that Canning values its natural environment and the wildlife we share it with.

Canning’s native birds deserve our care, and I’m proud that our city is leading the way.
